Clipper Fleet Service Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Supervisor | Clipper Windpower, Inc. | Cedar Rapids, IA

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the coordination of Clipper Fleet Service (CFS) EHS programs including, internal training, document creation and OSHA processes / procedures. This position will require having the ability to travel extensively to various locations within the U.S. to create an extremely proactive Safety culture within Clipper Fleet Service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Identifies CFS needs to maintain an OSHA compliant work environment.
  • Creates a network of Safety coordinators throughout Fleet Service to enhance and enforce all policies and procedures.
  • Works with technical experts to create various Safety policies and procedures specific to Clipper equipment i.e. LOTO
  • Reports out to the Director of EHS on critical issues i.e. accident reports and lost time incidents.
  • Conducts detailed investigations on all near misses and actual incidents to proactively implement processes to prevent repeat situations.
  • Develops budgets related to EHS activities within the Fleet Service Team
  • Overtime and travel will be required in this position

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Yes, up to 10 personnel at times.

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Extensive experience with both office and heavy construction EHS requirements per OSHA standards.
  • 5+ years of hands on heavy construction (crane and rigging) experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of electical systems hands on experence preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with an extreme focus on integrity and safety.
  • Basic computer skills required, i.e. MS office programs
  • Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time as needed to meet business goals and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate and create a team environment throughout the company on all EHS related issues.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Working in and around wind turbine projects can be a very demanding occupation. Employees must be able to perform the following.
  • Climb tower ladders up to 300' in height.
  • Lift up to 75lbs
  • Rappel off of towers up to 300' in height.
  • Perform basic office and computer work.
  • Stand, sit & walk as needed to implement Safety programs on wind turbine projects.
  • Ability to drive work vehicles in challenging locations i.e snow & ice.
  • Must be able to hear adequately in order to work safely in a construction environment
